So we are still here in Houston. With the storm continuing to turn East and the roads as bad as they are, we will probably hunker down here and sit out the storm.
The evacuation is CRAZY. I don't know what is on national media coverage, but it is very, very bad. People are stranded (in 100 degree heat) with no water or gas. Cars are broken down and some abandoned on the side of the road. They have estimated 2 million people have or are trying to evacuate. People are actually turning around and heading back to Houston. My mother-in-law spent 17 hours on the roads and only made it from the south side to the north side of Houston. She wasn't even out of the city yet. Luckily she managed to get off and she is now here with us.
The windows are boarded up on the walls that will get hit with wind and we have supplies. Hopefully Rita won't be too hard of a slam.
Sigh..... this has been the longest three days of my life. Rain and wind are supposed to start tomorrow AM or PM depending on which doomsday meteorologist you listen too. Both my husband and I are soooo spent. Boarding up windows in 100 degree heat is a killer.
I do have to share that the oddest thing I have done so far is label my horse's butt with my name and telephone number on it. So if you see a bay gelding wandering down the road with a giant H. SOLOMON written on his ass, you will know who to call. ;-)
