While in development and working with user interface customizations, name the site definitions so as you move around the site(s) you can quickly and easily see which site definition the area or site is using so you can make sure you are editing the right site definition files.    For example, open the default.aspx page for the SPSTOPIC site definition and add the text “SPSTOPIC” after the <body> tag:

<body marginwidth="0" marginheight="0" scroll="yes" spsid="SitePageTemplate" id="PageBody" runat="server"> SPSTOPIC <form runat="server">

The title will then appear clearly at the top of the screen above the header.

This is especially helpful for working with SPSTOPIC and SPSTOC as those definitions are so similar.
